New Laptop

Finally bought a new laptop from Matrix at Funan Mall last Saturday. Well it wasn't that my old, sturdy Dell laptop wasn't working-- in fact its still working perfectly thanks to proper PC maintenance (points to self). It's just that I've been meaning to install Lightroom 3, Adobe Photoshop CS5, Sims3, etc etc, and my old laptop just wasn't able to keep up with the recommended specifications without hanging. Also, I left my old laptop on the table and woke up one morning to find the hinge really loose. Like, if you accidentally brush against the screen a bit, it will totally slam down in either direction. Scary.

So after browsing around several shops and listening to recommendations, I found Asus X42J to be quite compatible with my needs.

Frankly, I would prefer a faster processor speed, preferably at least Intel i7 Quad Core 2.0Ghz. This comes at 1.73Ghz. According to one guy, the newer and faster i7 2.0Ghz isn't very stable right now, and Intel recently sent them notification to recall it. He could be bluffing me for all I know, but he does make some sense. Plus, why would he encourage me to buy the slightly older version when the newer one is more expensive? (btw, I didn't buy from him)

Another feature I really appreciate is the keyboard. Nowadays, new laptops swap the position of the function keys on the F1-F12 buttons. In the past, if you want to switch on your bluetooth, you have to press Fn+F2. With newer keyboards nowadays, it's simply F2. So if you really want to use F2, you now have to press Fn+F2 instead. Can you imagine what a hassle it will be to rename stuff. So much for shortcuts eh? I'm glad Asus hasn't followed in this dumb direction.

Specs:
Intel i7 Quad Core 1.73Ghz
500GB hard drive space (would have preferred more actually)
4MB memory
ATI Mobility Radeon 1GB graphics card (would have preferred Nvidia but it's fine)
14.1"
2.3kg (much lighter than my 2.41kg Dell)
... and a whole lot of other stuff I don't care about.

Freebies:
3-years warranty (Apparently, only Asus dares to do this as they make their own motherboards hence more confident of its stability.)
Asus mouse (comes with laptop!)
Laptop cleaning kit
Keyboard protector
Mouse
Earphones + microphone
Asus Laptop bag
Laptop Cooling fan

All that for $1200 nett. =)

To think I was prepared to pay like $2k... Alright, another strike off wishlist!

Crumpler 7 Million Dollar Home

I went to the Crumpler shop at Raffles City last week with the intention to buy the Crumpler 5 Million Dollar Home camera bag.

As it turned out,
5 MDH- $112, no shoulder strap
6 MDH- $156, a bit bigger than 5MDH
7 MDH- $166, a lot bigger than 6MDH, can mount my tripod too

Not bad, can put quite a lot of stuff. All these above including a netbook.

Shopping Spree!

I spend like almost $300 the other day shopping. Bought lotsa nice stuff!!!

Alex stunned for awhile when he saw this. He was like,"女人去shopping真的很恐怖。。。" Well it's not everyday I get to do this. =/

Went to Queenstown to collect pay and at the same time drop by BonkersLink at Queensway Shopping Centre (level 1) to get myself that 23litre Deuter backpack that I have been eyeing on for weeks!!! I highly recommend everyone to go to this shop to buy backpacks (small or large) and backpacking stuff. Very good service with the most competitive prices! The uncle is very friendly and he has a good knowledge on all his products. He also parallel imports some products like Jack Wolfskin backpacks which are high in quality and not available anywhere in Sg.

$89 and he sold it to me for $63!!

Raincover for my 40litre Tatonka backpack!

After which, Kh and I headed to Vivocity to get myself a windbreaker. WinterTime was having some sale but there was nothing there that I liked. Popped by Esprit, and I totally fell in love with this white jacket. On sale at 20% off! $170 less 20+10% (member discount) equals $122!!!

I headed to Settlers for work immediately after my spree as I have to work. GC was there and he went shopping too and we were like so excited over each other's bargains. He luurrvved my jacket so much that he kept modelling it. =x

Oh the lighting is pretty bad... I honestly think he looks really good in it!!!

On a side note, my exam results are coming out next week and I'm feeling the stress as each day approaches. Plus, I'm only left with a week to my much anticipated Vietnam trip and I find myself having too little time to prepare. So many things I haven't buy (travel insurance, stuff needed during the trip, etc.), haven't finish planning, haven't even started to pack! I can feel my blood pressure rising as I'm typing this.... =(

Underwater Camera

I recently purchased a manual waterproof camera online for only $25. This is a HUGE drop in cost from my Canon 450D waterproof casing which costs $1,400 (as much as the camera itself).

Got myself the orange one. I hope to use it in Vietnam, when we go kayaking or snorkelling. =)

New phone + F1

It was a really boring Saturday afternoon as always. I was on the bus home when Kh suddenly called me to tell me there was this roadshow at PS that was selling the Samsung F480 at $100 cheaper than other places and asked me to go down immediately. I had no prior intention of changing a phone but went down to take a look anyway. So that was it. I totally bought it on impulse.

It was a hasty decision. I was deciding between coral pink and black. Really wanted black but everyone over there kept saying pink is so much nicer. Even a random lady next to me said,"You should get pink. It's nicer." -_-" So I got pink. It's a newly launched colour and also came with an exclusive $50 Face Shop voucher. Kh got himself the luxury brown one.

So anyways, I wanna say that I'm really proud of Singapore for hosting the F1 Grand Prix so successfully. There was so much praise going on for our country, and just seeing our stunning skyline at the backdrop touched my heart so much that I almost well up in tears. I see the same view all the time especially when driving along the ECP, but just seeing this broadcast live worldwide is a whole different feeling altogether.

I gotta say yesterday's F1 race was really exciting. I can't understand why dad and sis can fall asleep after 5 mins of watching. It's more than just fast cars. It's about strategy, glam, overwhelming technology and so much more. Perhaps my greatest regret this year is not being able to watch the race at marina. Next year, I'm gonna be there, and I'll get my camera, lenses, and tripod ready! ;)

Comex 2008

Woot! Bought a laser printer and an exteral harddisk at Comex today. =)

Bought a Samsung colour laser printer for $268 cos my current Brother printer really high maintenence. Super ex to print. Wanted to get a 4-in-1 colour laser printer but it costs a min of $899. So guess I'll use my Brother printer for scanning and photocopying and this one to print documents. =)
Also bought a 320GB Western Digital portable harddisk at $149.90. Love it's sleek design! No choice as my own laptop is desperately crying out for space. Been having warnings that the com is functioning on low memory and it'll even hang sometimes.
And they gave me a free pouch!

Yay!

Board Games Galore

Yay! My board games finally arrived on Monday. After a 6-month hiatus from Settlers, Kh and I were so bored with our current collection that we purchased $600 worth of board games online. It is for this purpose that I held a board games spree, which to my surprise, attracted rather good response.

The goods arrived in 2 large boxes!

The games we bought... We're huge fans of Rio Grande games. =)

Jack and Julie kept saying that we are the new Settlers. Funny 'cos a new Settlers outlet just opened at SMU and I'm working there. Yups it's the biggest and nicest outlet of all, and it offers a lot more than just board gaming. I shall take this time to help CY advertise: http://sg.settlerscafe.com/200808/OpeningSMU.jpg

New sports shoe

Went to Queensway today for a project briefing, then went to Ikea to have lunch and buy shower curtains, and finally, bought a pair of running shoes. Yay!

It's the first thing I saw and I immediately bought it. =) Asics is THE running shoe! =D
$172 less 25%= $129 Not a bad bargain although I totally bursted my budget. No choice man, really need a pair. Threw my old pair of Nike's at Thailand last year. It was spoilt beyond repair! =x

More stuff

I've been in a rather foul mood lately. Been so busy with everything that I hardly have time to rest. Really miss the good old days in the kampong where I can just lie down and watch the clouds without a care in the world. My aunt may not be going to Thailand this year after all as my cousin is having her PSLE. If she doesn't, I suppose I would extend my Vietnam backpacking trip to 2 weeks. Really really need a break.

Kh bought another 2 games the other day to add to our collection:

Puerto Rico. Cost about $84.

Bang! Cost about $80+ as well. Includes expansion set. This game is going to be out of print so it's worth it to get. It will worth a lot in future. =)

We've been meeting J&J, Kh's super lovey dovey couple friends, to play these games. Worth it for them la... We pay they play. T__T Oh well. What to do, we love gaming so much.

As if the spending spree is not over, Kh and I hopped over to Heeren after that to get him a birthday present. He wanted the Fossil wallet that he saw the other day so I got that for him. But then, while browsing through the stuff in the shop, I fell in love with a long wallet and Kh decided to buy that for me for my birthday. Then the store assistant informed us that we'll get a 15% discount if we spend $250 or more, so I got Kh another belt to make up for that amount. After discount, ya can say that the belt is almost free. =) (Hey I always do my calculations okay. I'm not one to fall for gimmicks.)

Kh's wallet... cost about $88.

Kh's belt... cost about $58.

My wallet! Cost about $128. Really good quality and I love how it smells! It's exactly what I need. Lots of slots to keep my cards! =D The store assistant also said that this is product is specially designed for the US market, hence there are very limited quantities for sale in Singapore. =)

Desperately in need of time to do these long postponed activites before school reopens:
1) Crabbing (crab fishing)
2) Photography trip to Chek Jawa
3) Gourmet BBQ
4) Go Kart + seafood dinner @ Johor

Sighs~~ I need a life...

Vegas Showdown

Woot! Bought another one of my fave board games to add to my collection! Also got myself a P.I membership. 5% discount with the privilege to reserve board games. I know it's very lousy for a membership but my fave games always go out of stock at PI and the next shipment doesn't come so soon. Hence being able to reserve games really helps!

$85.90 after less 5% discount is $81+. Hah. Not much diff but better than nothing? It can at least cover our transport cost. =x

It's not a gambling game! Haha. It's actually a bidding and building game. Requires you to be able to manage your finances well. =)

I've been holding too many sprees for the past month. Look what that has landed me in.
