Wedding of the year

Welly's wedding at Raffles Town Club was a simple but quite glamorous affair. Thoroughly enjoyed the cocktail reception which includes voting how we would like her to spend the angbao money we're giving her, posing with Facebook cutouts and savouring the oh-so-yummy smoked salmon bread. Most of all, I enjoyed the creative  movie intro she and hubby Ronald made before making the grand entrance. They met on Facebook, so the whole wedding theme is on Facebook. Sweet. :) 

New Home

So Kh and I got a ballot number for the Fernvale March BTO. It's QUEUE NO.10!!! I wasn't expecting any number at all, and when I saw a '10', I was wondering what it meant. It took awhile to get into my head. I haven't heard of anyone getting such a small number. 

So anyways, we've booked a unit on the 21st floor with river view. We wanted 23rd floor, but it was taken up by queue no.4. Our second choice 22nd floor was taken up by queue no. 7/8. We were disappointed that we can't even get our first choice with such a small number. (Goes to show how popular our choices were.) But thank God anyway for the small number which still gave us a rather good unit. 

While we were at HDB hub, we also met queue no. 3 for 5-room flat and queue no. 199 for 4-room flat. They could quite possibly be our future neighbours since we had them convinced that our side of the block is the best. Heh. 

3 LRT stops away from NEL. That's really far. But considering that we'd surely get a car in the near future, we're more interested in the fact that it is close to CTE and SLE.

Losing

You know why I don't gamble? I don't do anything that's remotely close to gambling. At least, not with real money. I don't buy 4D, Toto, don't play Jackpot or even BlackJack with 10 cent bets. If someone insists that I take out my moolahs in Mahjong, I'd gladly sit out.

The reason is, I really HATE LOSING. I don't care about not winning. I just hate losing. The thought of losing even $1 sickens me to the very core. 

Last year, during CNY dinner, everyone in the office was asked to chip in $5 for the 2-million Toto cash prize. I was the only one who wanted to sit out but eventually gave in just to shut everyone up. To me, that's $5 I'm never gonna see again. My heart ached for it. Who cares about that 2 million? (Well, no surprises that we didn't win.) 

On our first cruise together, Kh bought a $25 ticket for the Bingo event which I strongly disapproved. My stomach dropped with each single ball that was release, even though it wasn't even my 25 bucks. I realised that I actually found more joy playing fake Bingo games then real ones. Why then should money should be wasted like this?

Sometimes I wonder why adults can take money so lightly. Like, losing money is alright, as long as you're safe and healthy. Growing up, I'm learning to come to terms with it. Not just with money, but with every little setbacks in life. 

The 20s have been a whirlwind of trying events. I can't help but become more cynical, occasionally questioning why life is so hard. Despite my non-activity in the gambling scene, I still find myself losing money to unforeseen circumstances. As is the case for my actions and decisions. It's hard having to deal with these constant bouts of self-reproach although I know that sometimes there was nothing I could have done differently. 

The bottom line is, shit happens, and there is nothing we can do about it. I am learning and trying to keep faith, and trust that God will do what is best for me.
